The concept of coming of age is centuries old and is celebrated globally from vast spectrum of societies and cultures. John Whitney speculated on this concept, the rites of passage where adolescents attain adult status. He has composed this lovely work for young performers opening with contemporary daunting thick chords interrupting the somber melody which transverses throughout the orchestra.
