VanderCook College of Music MECA: Proficiency vs. Excellence: PERA Assessment in Music Education
08:00 AM - 05:00 PM
The Performance Evaluation Reform Act (PERA) requires all Illinois school districts to use new teacher evaluation systems that incorporate student growth measures. This course demystifies the process and presents multiple strategies for assessing student growth, including all aspects of the Danielson model for evaluation. In addition, the differences between proficient and excellent ratings in all four domains using language specific to music education are thoroughly examined.
Students will also learn to develop PERA-compliant assessments and how to use the resulting data to develop visual representations of student progress.
