Rentals

Why do I want to rent an instrument instead of purchasing?

One might wonder why not just purchase the instrument initially? There are several great reasons to rent from Q&F instead of outright purchasing.

  1. When you rent from Q&F, you can take advantage of our M&R program knowing that your instrument is covered for any repairs, and loss by fire or theft, or if damaged beyond repair.
  2. The band rental program is a rent-to-own program.  All payments (excluding M&R fees) apply towards the purchase of the instrument! Also, there are no interest charges on our student band or student orchestra rental programs!
  3. If you rent a string instrument, we will be happy to help your student into the next size larger at no additional charge! Typically the exchange can be made at school for you. We offer most common fractional sizes for Violins, Violas, Cellos and Basses. This means you won’t have a closet full of small, unwanted instruments!
  4. Many times the “cheap” instruments found online are instruments that cannot be serviced because they do not hold up to normal manufacturing specifications and one cannot find parts for them. All of the instruments rented by Q&F are educator approved brands meeting their specifications for quality and longevity.
  5. Our rental programs also allow you to return the instrument at any time. Educators expect students to give it a GOOD try, typically at least four months of serious effort.  Our Discounted Four Month Trial period gives you this opportunity.

What does Maintenance & Replacement (M&R) mean?

Maintenance & Replacement (M&R) coverage is our complete instrument coverage program. When you rent your instrument through Q&F and sign up for M&R, all of the repairs no matter extent or frequency are covered as part of the coverage. M&R also covers you in case of fire, damage, loss or theft.

How long is my rental agreement?

The duration of your rental agreement depends on a few factors.

  • If you have a student orchestra rental, the agreement will continue until you either want to return the instrument or until you choose to purchase your own step up orchestra instrument package.  Rental payments continue through the summer months if the instrument remains in your posession.  We offer  a convenient monthly purchase plan called Opus 24 which provides 24 equal monthly payments at NO INTEREST.
  • If you have a student band rent-to-own agreement, montly payments continue until the instrument either paid off or you return the instrument.  We offer a 25% early payoff discount at any time on the remaining balance.  Rental payments continue through the summer months if the instrument remains in your posession.

How do I know what size of string instrument to rent?

Curious on how to size your student for a proper fit of a string instrument?  Most teachers will measure students prior to any registration process, so be sure to follow their recommendation.  We will also gladly measure your child in one of our stores.  However the guide below is helpful as a general rule too.  If your student grows during the summer or somehow the instrument is not the right size, there is no need to worry.  As part of the string rental program, Q&F will provide your student with the next size at no additional charge.

What does Extended Maintenance Agreement (EMA) service mean?

An Extended Maintenance Agreement is an on-going service plan that becomes available once you own your instrument purchased through one of our covenient purchase plans. Since we no longer own the instrument, it is no longer covered for theft, however EMA covers all repairs (regardless of extent or frequency) and can be renewed annually.  Many parents enjoy the "peace of mind" that this valuable coverage offers while their child is involved in band or orchestra.
